Sunday Supernaturally: Hearing Ears

He who has ears to hear, let him hear.  (Matthew 11:15; 13:9; 13:43 ESV)

“You stiff-necked people, uncircumcised in heart and ears, you always resist the Holy Spirit. As your fathers did, so do you. (Acts 7:51 ESV)

“He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.”  (Revelation 3:6, et al NKJV)

The hearing ear and the seeing eye, the LORD has made them both.  (Proverbs 20:12 ESV)

The idea of having ears to hear runs throughout Scripture.  Israel had their hearts hardened and their ears closed by idolatry and pride. In some seasons, they enjoyed the interaction with the people of other gods, refusing to repent.  When Jesus was among them, they were so enamored of their own religion that they refused to see the Messiah in their midst. “We played and He didn’t dance!”  He just didn’t do it the way they thought it should be done!

The ability to hear the truth require a desire to know the truth and a willingness to lay aside prejudice and preference.  Most of us cling to what we have or only see in light of what we want.  We filter everything the preacher says through the filter of what we think we already know.  I pray that today, in the gathering of the saints wherever you are, you would ask the Lord to show you truth, to give you ears to hear.  The hearing ear is a gift from God.  Ask Him for it, then listen expectantly.
