Healing Help Video 49: Exposure to Unknowns

Once upon a time, when I was in college, I took a course on nutrition.  During a lecture on the basic food groups and the importance of a balanced diet, the professor said we needed variety in our diet so as to provide “opportunity for exposure to unknowns.”  That meant that science didn’t know everything, and that there may be vitamins or nutrients that we need but are unaware of.  A varied menu exposes us to opportunities to get things we don’t know we need.

One of the great things about living in Christian community, of gathering regularly in worship with other believers, is that we are exposed to unknowns.  Jesus told us that when we gather in His name that He is there, and that this makes our united, “symphonic” prayer more powerful (Matthew 18:19-20).  We know that God is present everywhere all the time.  He is “omnipresent.”  But Jesus indicates that in these times of gathering there is a unique quality of “Presence.”  This Presence brings with it things we can never access alone, things you didn’t even know you needed!  You were never designed to live the life of faith alone.  Don’t try!
