Sunday Supernaturally: Tell me Something Good

Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised, and his greatness is unsearchable. One generation shall commend your works to another, and shall declare your mighty acts.

Psalms 145:3-4 ESV

This week, the website ChurchLeaders.com published an article entitled, “The Lonely Crowd: Churches Dying Due to Friendlessness.”  The author noted that many people complain that, though their church is friendly, they have a hard time making real friends there.  If you think about it, that’s kind of sad.  In a culture that is increasingly disconnected, people are hungry for connection with humans.  Church is peculiarly positioned to provide exactly that.  Why don’t we?

Connection is more than sharing a song and a sermon.  It takes a little effort.  A lot of church folks are distanced from others by their pride.  They can’t be real with people because there is shame in failure.   Others simply don’t want to be bothered.  They came to be entertained.  One thing I notice is that some folks are always ready to share their distress, “pray for me Pastor, I need…”  How about sharing a victory once in a while!  This week, share a victory with somebody.  You had one.  You’re still breathing!  Find someone to tell what God has done for you, then be prepared to listen to someone else tell their story of God’s goodness.  Connect over what you share in common – the greatness of our God.
