As I watch the remembrances of Mrs. Reagan I am reminded of the days 36 years ago when the former governor of California, an actor and union leader, came to Washington. What a breath of fresh air. Our nation had been limping along in search of leadership for a good while. We endured the assassination of Kennedy, the Viet Nam debacle, Watergate, and the Iran hostage crisis. All that was set against the backdrop of a culture coming off the rails with drugs and sexual promiscuity.
What a sense of relief I felt when I realized that the adults were back in charge! I didn’t always agree, but I always had confidence that Mr. Reagan knew the difference between good and evil, that He loved America, and that he cherished freedom over security. I pray that somewhere in our current mess we can find another adult to drive for just a little while longer. If not, come quickly , Lord Jesus!
