Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.
Colossians 3:12-13 NIV
Part of acting on your faith when you pray is to forgive if you have anything against anyone. In our last message, we found that
- You can forgive. It’s who you are
- Forgiveness means to release or let go. For us, forgiveness is freely releasing another from what I feel they owe me because of their offence.
- Unforgiveness has symptoms. They show up when I am reminded of the offence or the offender. Eph 4.31 bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of evil behavior.
- And today’s big one: You can forgive by faith.
Trying to forgive by sheer willpower rarely works, Thankfully, the combination of the grace of God and your obedience in word and deed will begin to reprogram your inner wiring. These reflections of who you really are, a child of your Father, will allow your new nature to supplant the relics of the old. It may take a while, but it will happen.
