Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle, set apart for the gospel of God, which he promised beforehand through his prophets in the holy Scriptures, concerning his Son, who was descended from David according to the flesh and was declared to be the Son of God in power according to the Spirit of holiness by his resurrection from the dead, Jesus Christ our Lord,
Romans 1:1-4 ESV
What an announcement! We are part of the good news of God project. It started before time began. It was proclaimed for hundreds of years through Spirit-inspired prophets and Scriptures. The subject: God’s Son. He took on human form, begotten by the Spirit as a descendant of David. For anyone who questions who He is, He was openly declared to be the Son of God when the Holy Spirit raised Him from the dead. He now sits enthroned over hell, death, and the grave, with power to enforce the results of His victory. He is Jesus Christ our Lord.
One of His first acts on the throne was to send the Spirit to us. The same Spirit that raised Christ from the dead now dwells in everyone who believes and submits to His lordship. That Spirit is the Spirit of holiness. He sets us apart for the work of God. He helps us live a godly life and gives us power to bear witness that Jesus is alive. We are the last link in the chain of the Good News of the Son that began in eternity past and will continue into eternity future. As we gather with the saints today, let’s remember whose we are, who we are, and what we’re here for. That same Spirit will be among us working miracles and preparing us for life. He will declare the resurrection of the Son of God in power. Expect it!
