Sunday Supernaturally: Do it Again, Lord!

All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, and to fellowship, and to sharing in meals (including the Lord’s Supper), and to prayer. A deep sense of awe came over them all, and the apostles performed many miraculous signs and wonders. And all the believers met together in one place and shared everything they had.

Acts 2:42-44 NLT

When I read the description of the church after Pentecost, I have to be careful not to become envious. The atmosphere was charged with “a deep sense of awe.” Miracles were part of daily life. There was no division based on class or color or language. Everyone was just happy to be a part of what was happening. Jesus was alive, God was in the house, and the Kingdom was a living reality. Man, I want some of that.

I’m not even sure what that would look like today. What would happen if God moved like He did then? I don’t know, but I want to find out. I want to be part of a movement where the Word is priority #1, where the people are passionate about each other, where prayer is always on the menu, and the sense of His Presence permeates the atmosphere. Lord, do it again!

As I read this passage again, I see a few things I can do. First, I can show up eager to hear the teaching of the Word. I can show up with a passion for fellowship with others of like precious faith. I want to be not just friendly, I want to be interested. I can judge myself when the Lord’s Table is served, not just eat a cracker and drink some juice while waiting for the benediction. And I can certainly pray: Pray at home, pray at church, pray in the car. It says that they were devoted to these things. Today I can devote myself to these things and see what God might do.

  1. Yes, what a better world this would be. Thank you, Pastor Virgil for reminding us what we are here for in this world.
