Although most of us don’t like to talk about it, the Bible talks a lot about something called “submission.” There have been many abuses of authority that have soured us on the subject, but it’s still there. In fact it’s designed to do us good and expand the Kingdom of God. In this lesson and the ones that follow, we will see what it really is, what it does for us, and how we can receive the benefit without being taken advantage of.
Take time to review the areas where you are asked to submit: To God, in the home, on the job, to the government, and in the church. In each of those places, what is the purpose God has in asking for submissive attitudes? What does he ask of the leader? What does he ask of the follower? What does it mean to you?
If this subject makes you uncomfortable, you’re going to want to get past it in order to find a place of humility. God give grace to the humble. He resists the proud.
