Sunday Supernaturally: Constant Conscious Contact

Your own ears will hear him. Right behind you a voice will say, “This is the way you should go,” whether to the right or to the left.

Isaiah 30:21 NLT

For the last several months, I have been meditating a lot on the importance of hearing and obeying the leading of the Spirit.  I believe it’s vital to living well and safely in the days we’re in.  Yesterday I heard the words, “constant contact.”  I know this is the name of an advertising firm, but I believe God is emphasizing the importance of taking our “experience” of hearing from God into all the activities of daily life.  He wants us consciously aware of Him at all times.  That reminded me of the 11th Step of Alcoholics Anonymous: ““Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God as we understood Him, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out.”

I am coining the phrase “constant conscious contact” to describe my goal.  One of the places we can practice our awareness of God is in our church services.  You can become more aware of His presence and His voice on purpose as you go to church today.  First, decide to worship.  Sing like you really believe Jesus is in the room and you want to tell Him of your love.  Second, listen to the message.  When you say “Amen” to something, write it down and ask yourself, “Am I doing that word I just agreed to, or is it only religious entertainment on Sunday?”  Third, write down anything that is said that surprises you, makes you uncomfortable, or ticks you off.  Take all you have written and use them in your daily devotions by looking to see what the Word says about them.  Act on what you find.

As on every Sunday, let’s go to church expecting to hear from God.  He’s speaking to those with ears to hear: constantly, consciously.
