“I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word; that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me. And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one: I in them, and You in Me; that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me.”
John 17:20-23 NKJV
Jesus prayed that all of us who believe in Him because of the preaching of the apostles would be united. We are in Him just as He is in the Father, act like it. He said that this unity would be a sign to the world that the Son was truly sent by the Father, and that the Father loves us just as He loved Jesus. Wow! We can evangelize just by getting along with other believers.
I have the privilege of being around lots of wonderful Christian people. It seems apparent that we all have many interesting quirks of doctrine and practice, yet most of the time we manage to get along. This happens for two reasons:
- We all believe in Jesus.
- We recognize the glory of God in each other.
Here’s my challenge for you today: Go to church, celebrate the fact that we all believe in Jesus, and look past petty differences to see the glory of God in those around you. It will be a sign and a wonder.
