And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.” So then, after the Lord had spoken to them, He was received up into heaven, and sat down at the right hand of God. And they went out and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirming the word through the accompanying signs. Amen. (Mark 16:15-20 NKJV)
Sometimes we complain about not seeing miracles like the early church. Others observe that their own church is not seeing works of power like they did in the “good old days.” When something is not working, it’s always a good idea to check out the instructions. The first prerequisite Jesus gave to the disciples was to go preach the Gospel. He said salvation would come to all who believed it. First question: “What is the Gospel?” Paul answered it this way: “Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures, and that He was seen by Cephas, then by the twelve. (1 Corinthians 15:3-5 NKJV)
Do you believe that Jesus died and was raised? Then you have believed the Gospel. That means that you are qualified to have signs following you. If you believe, but you’re not seeing any signs, then take a quick inventory of your own behavior, not your pastor’s or your friend’s, but yours!
Maybe you’re not up to casting out devils yet (You can, you know), or maybe going where there are serpents and deadly beverages is beyond your comprehension as of today (Maybe it’s time to assess why you’re not willing). Still, you can speak with tongues. Try it. It will help you get accustomed to the power and presence of the Spirit of God. Finally, you probably have everything you need to see people healed. Remember, you believe the Gospel. That means you’re qualified. The only other equipment you need is hands and a sick person.
Today, as you head for church, ask God to show you someone who is sick. When He does (He will), ask them if you can lay hands on them. Place both hands on their face or shoulders and simply say “In the Name of Jesus Christ, I command sickness, pain, and infirmity to leave this body. Healing, BE!” Then just thank the Lord for confirming His Word. Signs follow believers. That’s you.
