For as in one body we have many members, and the members do not all have the same function, so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another.
Romans 12:4-5 ESV
Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it.
1 Corinthians 12:27 ESV
Whether we know it or not, whether we like to or not, we are connected to one another. It is not normal for a Christian to live a life of isolation or separation from other believers. This has a part to play in our individual development, as we need encouragement and correction from others. We also need up close and personal examples of people who walk with the Lord. It’s how we grow and learn.
For today, however, let’s concentrate on the fact that our local church is a body. Each of its constituent parts has a God-ordained function. You have value to the body whether you know it or not. The local church can fulfill the will of God only to the extent that the members, or body parts, connect and fulfill their function. Paul was talking to a local church when he said, “you are the body of Christ and individually members of it.” It’s Sunday!!!! Gather, connect, serve, grow.
