Sunday Supernaturally: I’ve Been Given Much

And that servant who knew his master’s will but did not get ready or act according to his will, will receive a severe beating. But the one who did not know, and did what deserved a beating, will receive a light beating. Everyone to whom much was given, of him much will be required, and from him to whom they entrusted much, they will demand the more. (Luke 12:47-48 ESV)

When I started following Jesus, it was 1979. The Iranians were still holding the U.S embassy in Tehran. The economy was bust, gas had shot up over a dollar, and interest rates were astronomical. Everywhere I turned, someone was saying that Jesus was coming any day. It sure made sense to me. Although it has been 45 years, it still seems to me that He is surely about to return. 2024 makes 1979 look like utopia, yet here we are.

The instructions Jesus left for us were clear: No matter how long it takes, we should live ready. This passage in Luke gives us some excellent advice. We don’t want to get complacent and let our walk with the Lord slide. If you have some area that needs tightening up, do it today! If you’re like me, you have been given much.

  • I’m healthy.
  • I have people that love me.
  • I have a roof over my head and food on the table.
  • I have a good church where I am taught the Word.
  • I have had the privilege of being instructed in the things of God by good teachers for over 4 decades.
  • I get up every day knowing that God has a purpose for my life and that there is more to do.

I have been given much; therefore, I am obligated to give back.

As we head to church today, how about we go looking for ways to use our much to bless the many. Payday will come. Get ready.
