and the Levites who were the singers, all those of Asaph and Heman and Jeduthun, with their sons and their brethren, stood at the east end of the altar, clothed in white linen, having cymbals, stringed instruments and harps, and with them one hundred and twenty priests sounding with trumpets—indeed it came to pass, when the trumpeters and singers were as one, to make one sound to be heard in praising and thanking the LORD, and when they lifted up their voice with the trumpets and cymbals and instruments of music, and praised the LORD, saying: “For He is good, For His mercy endures forever,” that the house, the house of the LORD, was filled with a cloud, so that the priests could not continue ministering because of the cloud; for the glory of the LORD filled the house of God.
2 Chronicles 5:12-14 NKJV
Yesterday I went to a men’s breakfast. There were about 35 guys there, all talking, laughing, enjoying the fellowship and the eggs. When it was time for the program, we were asked to stand and sing together. As the chorus of “How Great is our God” began, there was a sudden change in the atmosphere. It’s hard to describe, but you just knew that God was in the house. I love it when God’s people come together in unity to express their love and worship for Him. He always shows up. We need that.
The Bible is full of examples of such times of worship, but the one above is one of my favorites. All it takes is to bring people together in unity to make one sound in praise and thanksgiving to the Lord. You would think that would be easy for us who have been redeemed by the blood of the Lamb, born of the Spirit of God, and empowered by that same Spirit to be His holy people. Somehow we don’t always make it. Don’t let that happen today.
As we go to the gathering of the saints, how about we make a decision to do our part to praise and thank the Lord. You can start a movement by raising your voice. Don’t settle for anything less than a house filled with the glory of God. Your voice matters.
