I hope to visit you soon. However, I’m writing this to you in case I’m delayed. I want you to know how people who are members of God’s family must live. God’s family is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of the truth.
(1 Timothy 3:14-15 GW)
1 Timothy 3:15 is one of my favorite texts, as it emphasizes both the nature and the importance of the local church. This time of year, when family connection seems to be at the front of our minds, I am reminded of the importance of my local church family. Of all the things God could have called it, He called it “family.” He refers to us as His children. We can call Him Father. He calls our relationships to each other father, son, sister, and brother.
I am grateful for my FCF Tucson family. Today is the last Sunday gathering before Christmas. I will intentionally rub shoulders with my family. We will laugh, sing, worship, and be fed on the Word of God (and probably some cookies and coffee). If I miss my long-departed natural family, I will be comforted by these relationships that are eternal and real. As I look around the room and see others who seem less than joyful, I will get the opportunity to share a big hug and a “Ho, ho, ho.” No wall flowers today, it’s family time. Ho, ho, ho, Merry Christmas!!!!!
(Please excuse the cheesy picture, but this is the card our church family gave us for Christmas, and I love it! Ho, ho, ho!)
