Those who believed what Peter said were baptized and added to the church that day—about 3,000 in all. All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, and to fellowship, and to sharing in meals (including the Lord’s Supper), and to prayer.
Acts 2:41-42 NLT

This is a big Sunday for Judy and me. We will be officially handing the reins of our church over to our long-time Associate Pastors John and Valarie Smith, God is not retiring us so much as shifting our assignment within His overall purposes for our ministry. That being said, I have been thinking a good deal about the local assembly and my longtime involvement in it – 4 churches pastored over nearly 40 years. Questions:
- Why is everyone not hungry to receive the Word of God? John 8:31-32
- Why do some seem comfortable to receive and never give? Philippians 1:9 / Galatians 5:13
- Why are all Christians not passionate about reaching the lost? Mark 16:15-18 / 1 Corinthians 9:19
- Why, in direct contradiction to the Scripture, do some blow off the assembling of the saints, thereby losing the benefits of a Pastor? Hebrews 13:17 / Ephesians 4:11-12
Oh, well. Whatever you decide to do, I’m going to church today because it makes Jesus happy and me a better man. We’re Havin’ a Party.
