I was walking the dog when I saw this sign. Riley hiked a leg to register his contempt for the idea expressed. I had to take a moment to think about it. My life has been somewhat discombobulated of late. What regularity and rhythm I had established has been completely and permanently altered. In fact, I have found myself in an almost frantic drive to schedule my future, packing every week with busy-ness. This sign reminded me of the saying that helped transform my life when I first started serving the Lord: One day at a time.
This last week, as I was calling and writing and texting in attempts to get the future to conform to my wishes, the Holy Ghost spoke to my heart ever so softly, “Why don’t’ you just enjoy your life?” Good question. I am incredibly blessed. My days could and should be filled with gratitude and peace, not pressure and anxiety. Today is a wonderful day, and tomorrow will come whether I worry about it or not. My grandmother used to have a little sign on the back of her cash register in the Hilltop Café on Shiggin Hill. It read, “Today is the tomorrow that you worried about yesterday.” Well, that will not describe my tomorrow, because just for today, l refuse to worry about it.
