When they saw the star, they were filled with joy! They entered the house and saw the child with his mother, Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasure chests and gave him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
Matthew 2:10-11 NLT

I know it’s not Christmas, but I was struck by this story anyway. These men were wealthy, and we typically think of them as being “wise.” They clearly went far out of their comfort zone to travel to Bethlehem, interview King Herod, and find the Baby. They did all this with great joy because they saw the star and knew it meant the King was born. When they entered the house where Mary was staying, their first act was to bow down and worship the Child. Then they did something remarkable: they opened the doors to their treasures, the things that were most valuable to them.
Are you ready to visit the King? Sunday is the day we gather as the people of God to revel and rejoice that Jesus Christ has overcome the world. Prepare by getting happy about it. Don’t wait for the worship leader to stir you up. Stir yourself up. Start now. Decide you’re gonna go because He is worthy, not because it is convenient. When you get to the house of God, bow down and worship. Don’t just sing some songs, God is here! No matter what, be sure to take the cover off the things you treasure most: money, time, ego, family, food, business, pleasure, whatever. Offer them to Him and let Him do what He wants. It will be better than you can imagine.
Let’s have church!
