So then, after the Lord had spoken to them, He was received up into heaven and sat down at the right hand of God. And they went out and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirming the word through the accompanying signs. Amen.
(Mark 16:19-20 NKJV)

It’s a great comfort to me that the Lord works with us. He doesn’t work for us, and we don’t work for Him. It’s a cooperative effort. In fact, the words “working with” in the verse above come from a Greek word that means to work together or to cooperate (sunergéō). It is the source of our word “synergy.” According to Wikipedia, “Synergy is the creation of a whole that is greater than the simple sum of its parts.”
Most of us are painfully aware that we need the Lord’s help in all we do. Living the Christian life on our own is way too hard, if not impossible. On the other hand, we often forget that the progress of the Kingdom is hindered if the Lord is left to do it all on His own Without us, the plan requires complete retooling. He has designed us to be co-laborers with Him in the earth. It is synergy. He wants it that way. In the verses above, note the progression. Jesus speaks to us, we go out and preach, He works with us to confirm the Message. As we go to church today, let’s go ready to hear what He says so we can do our part in the cooperative effort that is the Kingdom of God.
