What shall I render unto the LORD for all his benefits toward me? I will take the cup of salvation, and call upon the name of the LORD. I will pay my vows unto the LORD now in the presence of all his people. Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints.
(Psalms 116:12-15 KJV)

Yesterday I participated in a memorial service for a precious lady who was a member of our church almost from the beginning. There were lots of great memories of 92 years of a very active life. She will be greatly missed. In the hour we live in, one wonders if there are people available to step into her shoes. The church, the world even, needs them.
What were her shoes that need filling? She showed up if at all possible. She smiled and had a warm greeting for everyone, even the unlovely. She prayed for and supported her church and pastors, financially and with her words of blessing. She actively looked for ways to help – doing hospital and jail visits, working the book table, opening her home for visiting ministers. I was especially blessed when in her 80’s she showed up at leadership meetings with her notebook open, ready to learn. That’s the short list, I could go on.
This Sunday, look around at your church. There are probably some shoes that need filling there, too. How about we fill them?
