Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own,
1 Corinthians 6:19 ESV
Do you not know that you are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in you?
1 Corinthians 3:16 ESV
In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord. And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit.
Ephesians 2:21-22 NIV
I remember flying into Mexico City for the first time. It was after dark, and as I looked out the window of the plane, I saw an amazing vista: lights. At first the city of more than 20 million people looked like a huge blanket of light draped over the hills as far as I could see in every direction. As we descended, I began to notice that the blanket was made up of millions of little points of light – homes and businesses and street lights. It occurred to me that every light signaled a person or a family, most of whom were surrounded by darkness. It changed me.
When i read Paul’s descriptions of us, I think about that blanket made up of individual lights. He is the light that lights every one of us. You are a temple of His Presence; I am a temple of His Presence. We shine. When we gather as the believing ones, the children of the Father of lights, our lights are woven together so that the glow emanates with a multiplied brilliance. You shine, I shine, but ,man, do we all shine together! Yesterday I was struck by this paragraph in a book I am reading:
“If we could see with spiritual eyes, we would see a world of darkness peppered with the lights of Yahweh’s presence, spreading out to meet each other, inexorably pressing and spreading out to take back the ground of the disinherited nations from the enemy. Of course we would also see those lights surrounded by darkness.”
(Heiser, Michael S.. The Unseen Realm: Recovering the Supernatural Worldview of the Bible (p. 333). Lexham Press. Kindle Edition.)
I like that phrase, “spreading out to meet each other.” Let’s get together and really light the place up, then spread out and take back some territory.
