His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.”
John 2:5 ESV
It’s Mother’s Day and many church services will commemorate the wonderful love of moms. That’s a good thing. In a day when the importance of parents is being disparaged, the focus on motherhood and the physical and emotional benefits that nurture produces is a very healthy thing. The impact of healthy, loving maternal behavior might warrant our study in depth. There’s lots of research available to commend it. Mama’s make a difference.
For today’s service, I want to go to Jesus’s mom for advice on how to have a splendid celebration. The miracles of Jesus began with mom’s instructions to those in charge of wine at a wedding. She had heard from Gabriel who her son would be. She pondered the phases of His growth and development. Now she has seen Elizabeth’s boy, John, preside over His baptism and declare Him to be the Lamb of God. She can confidently say, “Do whatever he tells you,” knowing that he will be able to help. They obeyed, a miracle occurred, and wine flowed. If you want to see the power of God released in your service today, go ready to do exactly that: Obey Him. When we do that, miracles ensue.
