For “WHOEVER CALLS ON THE NAME OF THE LORD SHALL BE SAVED.” How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “HOW BEAUTIFUL ARE THE FEET OF THOSE WHO PREACH THE GOSPEL OF PEACE, WHO BRING GLAD TIDINGS OF GOOD THINGS!”
Romans 10:13-15 NKJV

I’m writing today from Mexico. Having spent three days teaching Bible school and trying to encourage pastors, I get the chance to speak in a local church on Sunday morning. What a privilege. At my home church back in Tucson, the pulpit will be filled by my friends, Eric and Wilma Sonera, who are missionaries to Latin America. I guess it’s kind of a “missions” Sunday for us.
That brings me to my word of encouragement for you. No matter what else the local church may or may not do, it is a vital building block in the mission program of Jesus. Paul told us that folks can’t hear the Gospel without a preacher, and the preacher can’t preach unless someone sends him. The local church produces, supports, and sends preachers to reach the world. I encourage you to go to church today intent on being part of a team that is reaching the world with the Gospel going or sending. It’s a matter of eternal life and death.
