Sunday Supernaturally: Honor to Whom Honor is Due

Render therefore to all their due: taxes to whom taxes are due, customs to whom customs, fear to whom fear, honor to whom honor.

Romans 13:7 NKJV

Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep.

 Romans 12:15 NKJV

This weekend we celebrate Memorial Day in the United States.  This Monday is set aside to remember, honor, and grieve those who have sacrificed their lives in defense of our nation.  This is right and good.   As a country founded on an idea rather than geography or genetics, the United States is unique. Thank God for the preservation of the God-given rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.  If you know someone who has given their life in this cause, take a moment to thank God for them.  For those who have lost loved ones and still grieve, take time to weep with them.

Maybe this Sunday, we should make it a point to go to church.  These people died so we could.  Honor their sacrifice. As we go, let’s take serious stock of where we are as a nation, and as the people of God in that nation.  Will there be a nation to celebrate this time next year?  If so, who will be responsible?  What am I responsible for as a child of God? When do I speak up?  When do I bite my tongue?  What am I willing to sacrifice to preserve the heritage of free speech, freedom of religion, and freedom of assembly?  It really is a time for choosing.
